SEL Adventures is excited to launch a new website, focusing on how changing a student’s behavior can impact their lives. Social-emotional learning is implemented through the SEL Adventures platform, all backed by the core CASEL competencies.
Our website includes a lot of statistics to ensure that schools see the value in introducing SEL skills in the classroom. For example, SEL skills can lead to a 13% higher academic performance. High school graduation rates can increase by as high as 6%, too.
What is EdTech?
SEL Adventures is the perfect example of EdTech, otherwise known as Educational Technology. It allows teachers to focus on social-emotional challenges inside of the classroom.

Implementation is of the utmost importance. Teachers will have tools that will help them to analyze and modify behavior in the classroom. The program is designed to be used weekly or biweekly for 50-minute sessions.
Middle school students can benefit from the classroom program by learning about empathy, decision making, anger management, and positive relationships.
In order to test out the programs and meet the SEL Adventures characters, a demo can be requested. All of the SEL Adventures characters are based on mythology and are easily relatable to middle school students. Due to the fantasy aspect, students are immediately drawn into the lessons.
The platform can be accessed via laptops, PCs, and tablets. It offers flexibility and lessons can be implemented without significant preparation, ensuring that teachers don’t have to spend hours on activity planning.

Kids don’t really behave as often as you would like them to. Unfortunately, as a teacher, you might spend more time focusing on disciplinary behavior than on the lesson plans that you worked so hard to create. If your students aren’t behaving, you have to look at ways to correct it so that you can begin teaching them about the various subjects.
This pop quiz will make it easier for you to take a look at student behavior to identify if there is a problem.
- What is the most common voice level in the classroom?
- Are students tearing up their belongings or class property?
- Are students being pushed down/around in recess?
- Are students talking during presentations?
- Are curse words being used in the classroom?
- Do students respect one another?
- Do students feel comfortable asking questions?
How you answer each question should tell you a lot about student behavior. For example, the first question involves the common voice level. Imagine the volume on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the loudest possible volume and 1 being quiet. Your classroom should be at a 1 or 2 during most times, with 3 being a possibility if there is group work taking place. If you answered that the voice level is a 5 most times, it likely means that things are out of control.
There are also questions that have to do with respect for personal property and of others. It is a form of bullying no matter how you look at it. If students are tearing up their own belongings, they don’t care about what they have. They haven’t learned the value of having items of their own. Further, if they are tearing up classroom materials, they don’t have respect for you or the school.
What Are You Going To Do About It?
At some point, you have to look at correcting the behavior in the classroom. It’s not acceptable for everyone to be talking over one another. It’s also not acceptable for students to feel uncomfortable raising their hands with a question if they feel they are going to get teased about it.
This means you have to look at teaching what appropriate behavior looks like – and correcting bad behavior. Years ago, students learned about proper behavior from home. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, this isn’t always happening.
Social-emotional learning can be introduced into the classroom to help you get behaviors in check. Additionally, group projects can make it easier to focus on social-emotional components. When people learn to value each other, you’re less likely to see bullying and other negative behavior.

There are a few tips that can help you to get your students to work together more effectively.
#1: Assign Roles
Rather than letting everyone pick their own group, assign roles. This will ensure that you don’t encounter cliques or inadvertently end up with someone who isn’t picked by any of the groups. Plus, this gives you the chance to balance out the different personalities so that you don’t have too many outgoing students in one group or too many of the class bullies in another. It’s also a good idea for one person to identify themselves as the group leader so that someone is in charge of keeping the focus of the group.
#2: Introduce Different Types of Activities
One group activity may work better than another for your students. Don’t focus on only one type of activity for the entire year. Instead, try out a few different ones. It will make it easier for you to find out which ones work more effectively. Plus, some students may stand out with certain ones. Consider such group activities as scavenger hunts, book reports, presentations, and building projects.
#3: Grade Accordingly
You don’t want to get into a situation where someone does all of the work and everyone gets an A. Instead, be sure that you grade accordingly so that everyone will want to take an active role in the activity. Ask everyone individually what they contributed towards the project. If you have more than one student taking credit for one specific area, you can identify that there is a problem. Further, students will know that they are going to have to list their contributions and will, therefore, be more likely to contribute in order to get the grade.

Teachers have to be babysitters to ensure that students aren’t texting and surfing the internet instead of listening to a classroom lesson. Behaviors are Different
